Idomeni, Greece, is a tiny farming village at the northern border of Greece with Macedonia/FYROM. It is notable primarily for a railway station, customs-office, and switching station. It is the last stop in Greece for the major rail line going north into the rest of Europe. It also was a landmark on the "Balkan Route" for the hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing terror and death in Syria, Afghanistan, and repressive dictatorships in Africa. In March 2016 Macedonia closed that border almost overnight, with miles of stainless steel fence, razor-wire, and baked it up with their Army and tanks. This immediately trapped about 15,000 human beings in the mud and dust of Idomeni.
